Why temping might be the right career path for you.
23rd May 2017

As the sun starts to make more of a regular appearance are you looking to have more flexibility in your job to enjoy it? Perhaps you're fed up doing the same thing day in day out and are looking for variety in your role? Here we look at 6 reasons why temping might be right career choice for you.

1. Try before you buy

Temping provides the perfect opportunity to try roles out before you take a permanent one. You may be new to the industry or new to the area. Temping allows you to check out the fit, the logistics and even lunches to see if it's right for you. At Think over 80% of our temps move to permanent positions as part of this process.

2. Flexibility

Temping provides unrivalled flexibility. Want to be able to have the school holidays off or perhaps you want to work 3 months then travel for 3? Temping provides you with the flexibility to earn and work to suit you.

3. Variety

Temping provides you a huge variety in your career - even the same job in different companies. No two roles are ever exactly the same. The people, the environment, the location will all vary as will the work. Temping is never dull!

4. Speed to get a jobwhite-man-speed.jpg

Temps are often needed the next day or to start the following week. The recruitment process, whilst thorough, is shorter than that for a permanent role. So if you're after a job quickly and you've got the skills and experience, temping could be your best option.

5. Build your CV

Temping is a great way to build up your CV, especially if you want to build up experience in a particularly industry or area. You can move companies, move roles and even move locations ensuring you build on everything you've already learnt.  If you are looking ultimately for a permanent role, but you can't tick all the boxes yet, temping may provide a way to fill in the gaps. You may even pick up some skills that you could take you down a completely new path.

6. Biding your time for the perfect role

You may be set on a permanent role, but you've not secured anything yet. Taking on a temp role in the meantime will take the pressure off financially, but you'll also be able to build up your experience as you continue your search. As they say it's often easier to find another job when you're already in one. You never know - that permanent job could come from that temp role that you're in!
