HR Manager
We're looking for an experienced, commercially minded HR Manager to take ownership of the HR function within an established and growing business in Watford.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, getting involved in all aspects of HR and working closely with senior leadership to shape and develop the people function.
You'll be the go-to person for all things HR, providing practical advice and support to managers and employees, leading on employee relations and ensuring the business has the right policies, processes and people practices in place.
Alongside your core HR responsibilities, you'll also oversee a range of wider business compliance activities, including ISO accreditation, health and safety, quality and facilities management. You don't need to be a specialist in every area, but you'll be organised, comfortable taking ownership and confident managing compliance processes and external support where needed.
The Role
HR Leadership & Employee Relations
- Take ownership of the full HR function, providing advice and guidance across the employee lifecycle.
- Act as the first point of contact for managers and employees on all HR matters.
- Lead on employee relations, including disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, absence and investigations.
- Review, develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, contracts and employee documentation, ensuring compliance with current employment legislation.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, payroll, benefits, pensions and employee administration.
- Support workforce planning, organisational development and business change.
- Coach and support managers, helping them develop confidence in managing their teams.
- Monitor HR data, identify trends and recommend improvements to support the wider business.
Compliance & Business Operations
- Oversee the company's Integrated Management System and maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring documentation is maintained and actions are followed through.
- Maintain health and safety policies, risk assessments, workplace inspections and compliance records.
- Oversee facilities management and ensure the working environment remains safe and compliant.
- Support management reviews, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
Personal Profile
We're looking for someone who:
- Has solid experience in a senior HR Generalist or HR Manager position.
- Has strong knowledge of UK employment law and is confident managing complex employee relations matters.
- Enjoys working in a smaller business where you can be hands-on, approachable and involved in the day-to-day running of the organisation.
- Is commercially minded and understands that HR needs to support the wider business, not operate in isolation.
- Is confident advising and influencing managers and senior stakeholders.
- Is proactive, organised and comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting to be directed.
- Has experience of developing HR policies, processes and improving ways of working.
- Has experience managing/leading small teams
- Experience of ISO management systems, H&S, quality or wider operational compliance would be advantageous.
This is a varied role for an HR professional who wants to be more than just an adviser. You'll have the opportunity to take real ownership, build relationships across the business and influence how the organisation operates.
If you're an experienced HR professional who enjoys the variety and responsibility that comes with working in a smaller business, we'd love to hear from you.
