A client based in St Albans is seeking an nterim Financial Controller to support the business during a period of transformation. This is a 5-6 month contract, ideal for a hands-on and proactive finance professional with strong leadership experience in an SME environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Director and report directly to the Managing Director. You will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day financial operations, leading a small finance team, and helping modernise finance processes.

This is a part-time office-based role, requiring three days per week in the office. Some flexibility for additional days may be needed as the project evolves.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of all financial operations
• Lead the finance transformation process within the business
• Act as a hands-on leader to diagnose issues, implement best practices, and strengthen financial controls
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and timely production of financial reports
• Implement and monitor effective workflows and processes
• Introduce and manage service level agreements (SLAs)
• Provide mentoring and leadership to transactional finance staff
• Act as a business partner to key stakeholders across departments
• Manage the monthly payroll process
• Deliver high-quality MI reporting and present to the board as needed

Key Requirements:

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior finance role within an SME
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Proven experience in process improvement and implementation
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the business

This interim role will be paid as a day rate PAYE and this rate will be discussed on application.
