We are pleased to be working with a prestigious school on the outskirts of Watford to recruit a HR Business Partner. This is a generalist role that will be based at their amazing facilities and assist the school through a period of change – managing projects whilst also dealing with the day to day HR effectively with the wider HR team. This will initially be a 9 month fixed term contract with the potential to move into a permanent role for the right candidate.
There is flexibility around hours (4 days a week or slightly reduced days) but the role will mainly be based at the school so candidates must be based within a reasonable commute and a car owner due to the location of the site. Hybrid working available during school holidays. 40 days annual leave including bank holidays!
Role to include:
Professional HR Advice
- Advise the Leadership Team and line managers on HR issues and employment law
- Advise the School on financial and legal issues relating to employment and risk management
- Advise the Senior Leadership Team of any issues of a personal nature affecting staff that come to notice, if appropriate
- Support the development of a staff culture which recruits, retains, rewards and develops the best people for the School to achieve its educational objectives
Employee Relations
- Manage all disciplinary, grievance and capability hearings and appeals, and relevant administration
- Work with legal advisors and project manage case work up to and including tribunals.
- Manage the absence management programme, with the relevant Deputy Head(s) to ensure appropriate monitoring of absence, support and return to work interviews are conducted appropriately and to seek support from Occupational Health and or GPs as required
Training and Development
- Advise and guide managers on issues of training and development
- Assist in evolving the process of staff performance management and professional development.
- Assist with the organisation of staff training events
Employee Champion
- Provide HR advice that is legal, ethical and consistent with the philosophy of the School
- Provide a means by which all employees can find someone to listen to their concerns about any aspect of their employment with the School
- Manage the exit interview process and provide aggregated feedback and where appropriate advise on appropriate action
Recruitment
- Contribute to the recruitment strategy, ensuring a professional candidate experience for all applicants throughout their journey
- Manage the process for internal and external recruitment of teaching and support staff
- Ensure that references and employment contracts are drafted accurately and issued on time
Compliance
- Ensure all staff checks are carried out in line with current regulations
- Ensure all necessary right to work checks are completed in line legislative requirements
- Monitor all staff documentation required for employment, pay, pensions, benefits and life assurance
- Ensure necessary action is taken and records maintained in the processing of Disclosures through the Disclosure and Barring Service
Compensation and Benefits
- Provide guidance on salaries based on role, qualifications and experience
- Co-ordinate Teacher and Support Staff Pay Progression applications and advising on performance reviews
- Provide advice and guidance to support line managers during their annual reviews
Engagement
- Work with Leadership team to identify the talent and critical roles in their areas and devising actions plans to retain, develop and advance key staff
- Develop succession plans and talent pipelines in place for critical roles
Change Management
- Lead senior managers through change processes, providing thoughtful challenge & critical analysis and ensuring the process is run in line with legislation and best practice
- Create all the necessary documentation for change implementation with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Administration
- Contribute to updating policies, procedures and employment manuals to ensure they are fair and consistent and obtain approval as required
Candidate requirements:
- Minimum 3 years experience at HRBP/HR Manager level
- Experience providing a wide range of HR advice to business leaders and their management team, ideally in a commercial or professional services or education environment
- Strong, up to date knowledge of UK employment law and current HR practices
- CIPD qualification is preferable
- Based within a reasonable commute of the area
- Willing to work on site for majority of the time
- Car owner
