Think Human Resources are pleased to be working with an established SME to recruit for a permanent Head of HR job opportunity. An innovative and growing business with circa 180 staff across a number of head office functions, the Head of Human Resources reports into the CEO and plays a crucial role in developing and implementing the people strategy across the organisation. Working as part of a small HR team, it is crucial that candidates have both strategic experience at Head of HR/HR Director level along with a hands on approach – happy to get stuck in and work closely with heads of department whilst also developing key initiatives and policies that will be implemented.
The Chief Executive is open to considering candidates already at Head of HR level, or a hands on HR Director from an SME background who is happy to consider a lower level role but is flexible and willing to “muck in” whilst guiding the HR team and developing a fantastic strategy to ensure development and performance of staff and therefore the wider business..
Role overview:
- Operational leadership of HR function, acting as subject matter expert in people management.
- Providing expert Business Partnering to the CEO and senior leadership team, advising, coaching and supporting them on people matters within their functional areas.
- Delivering the end to end leadership of People change initiatives in the Business.
- Ensuring the smooth implementation of organisational re-structuring to support growth.
- Business partnering key departments and management teams
- All Business HR standards ensuring both legal compliance and best practice, working with external parties as required.
- Consistent and high-quality delivery of cost-efficient HR provision to all levels of the business.
- The successful delivery of the HR plan initiatives to timescales and budget.
- Providing direction, expert knowledge and guidance on Business decisions concerning the workforce i.e. Reward; ER; Recruitment; Learning and Development etc.; utilising external support as required.
- Leading and managing the People team to deliver a high-quality HR service to Managers in the Business. (2 x HR Business Partners and an HR Administrator)
- Business partnering with one of the key departments to provide support for the Heads Of, Supervisors and Directors. The two business partners will support the rest of the business.
- Providing and analysing HRMI to inform business decisions.
- Understanding business profitability targets and managing the cost base of the Business.
- Building and maintaining a commercial People plan to support Business growth; ensuring it is actioned and updated according to insight e.g. Employee Engagement survey outputs.
- Expertly managing the people impact of business re-structures, e.g. promotions, training and exits.
- Designing; delivering and maintaining consistent performance management tools and processes.
- Leading the people initiatives to embed the core values and develop company culture.
- Driving the implementation of the Employee Engagement Survey and the adoption of this by Managers.
Candidate requirements:
- Experience at Head of HR/HR Director level is essential, ideally within an SME environment
- Must be hands on, flexible, adaptable and not afraid to muck in
- Knowledge and experience of a wide range of HR disciplines and practices.
- Good commercial acumen and ability to make bold decisions that balance employee and business interests.
- Specific expertise in organisational design solutions particularly implementing operating models and organisational structures.
- Experienced in organisational development tools particularly performance management and succession planning.
- Experience of Business partnering senior Directors and the ability to hold open, honest and courageous conversations at all levels.
- Demonstrable experience in leading successful People change initiatives.
- High levels of drive and resilience, and ability to work at pace both collaboratively and independently.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and manage high performing teams.
- A willingness to get stuck in and get involved, interacting at all levels
- ‘Can-do and will-do’ attitude and approach
- Experienced HR leader with track record of success in a broad range of HR disciplines.
- Significant experience of leadership development and coaching senior teams.
- Proven experience in organisational development thinking and implementing.
- Strong personal leadership qualities, supporting a high-performance culture.
- Experience of delivering success in changing environments.
