We are pleased to be partnering with a not-for-profit trade association to recruit a General Manager. An exciting and varied role that takes full responsibility for the management of the organisation, membership companies and affiliated individuals, along with the running of their audit scheme. We are looking for an experienced leader from within the business community with a background in running a small business or division of a company having held responsibility for all budgets, strategy, administrative and operational processes.
The role will be 4 days per week (30 hours per week – flexible on days worked) and will be exclusively working from home with occasional travel to meetings and events. The salary on offer will be £50,000 to £60,000 for 30 hours per week.
Role overview:
- Manage the operations of a small trade association of circa 130 members
- Work closely with the Committee members to ensure strategic and financial responsibilities are reported
- Plan and organise Management, Sub Committee and Working Party meetings including timely issue of agenda and minutes (Up to 6 face to face meetings are expected each year at various locations around the UK)
- Plan, organise, attend and lead events such as Seminars, AGM / Conference, social events (eg Annual Dinner Dance, Golf Day) - typically 8 events per year at different locations around the UK.
- Host and lead online and face to face meetings
- Maintain financial records and prepare quarterly budgets and accounts
- Engage with and proactively manage suppliers of services to the Association such Apprenticeship Scheme delivery, Audit Administration, Media & Marketing.
- Check, approve and arrange payment of invoices.
- Organise the nomination and election process to the Management Committee
- Maintain well organised documentation / electronic filing & retrieval system and office systems to standard of ISO 9001
- Promote the organisation to the benefit of its members across the entire spectrum of the supply chain from designers and specifiers, clients and principal contractors, manufacturers and suppliers, professional and other trade associations and organisations
- Represent and promote the BDA through attendance at and participation in virtual and physical events such as Seminars, Conferences, Exhibitions, Trade Shows etc
- Encourage and attract new members and retain existing members
- Communicate through email, website and social media to the membership and external organisations at all levels
- Maintain membership subscription details including invoicing and record of payments
- Process membership applications
- Actively engage with the membership and to develop relationships with a range of member businesses
- Contribute to the association’s communications through social media, website news and newsletter
- Monitor, report and take action on members’ grievances
- Identify and communicate with any potential members according to BDA Marketing Committee plan for recruitment
- Actively initiate and promote Association social events
Candidate requirements:
- Business administration skills including solid understanding of finance (profit and loss, balance sheet, forecasting), record keeping following GDPR guidelines, business development, public relations and marketing
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic
- Sociable, approachable and friendly
- Diplomatic and sensitive
- Confident to deal with senior members of staff (such as Directors, Chief Executives) within the membership and partner organisations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly competent in the MS suite of programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint)
- Ability to travel, occasionally, throughout the UK to attend meetings, conferences, to meet members and attend social events
